New Georgian

Category: Private Residence

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Completion Date: 2004

Size: 5,000 square feet

Scope: Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture and Construction Management

Design Concept:

A new residential construction project situated in an established neighbourhood in Toronto, just minutes from the heart of the city. Surrounded by mature trees and historical residences, the mandate was to create a Georgian envelope which reflected the vernacular of its surroundings and would ultimately appear as though it had stood in this location since the late 1920’s when the area was originally developed.  Masonry combining  Indiana cut limestone and Flemish bond brickwork define the exterior. The interior language was to equally articulate a sense of permanence and respect classical architectural detail. The contents, however were to typify a pared down, eclectic aesthetic, luxurious and practical - essential for a young family who welcomed their first child four months after completion. Interior contents combine French 40’s, mid century modern and antique pieces with artisanal objects of American, European, Chinese and African origin within the context of a contemporary photography collection.
