Design Concept:
A full floor apartment on the Upper West Side designed for frequent entertaining and a busy family life. A project which reflects a hybrid language – a modernist expression with historical references. Pared down historical detailing is articulated in an interior envelope clad with shagreen, parchment, leather, sycamore and pewter silver leaf glass. The aesthetic is curated and includes pieces by Klint, Vautrin, Adnet, Kagan, Bankowsky, Schmitt, Zimmerman, Wiseman, Garouste and Bonetti among others yet a pragmatism ensures that the space is comfortable as opposed to precious. A sweeping axis running along the principal room spaces is anchored by a cast steel and glass screen sculpture by the firm’s principal architect, Peter Cebulak – an example of a commissioned work.
